I recently finished Season 2 of Netflix’s Sex Education. The show is set in the United Kingdom, and follows the adventures of Otis, a 16-year-old boy whose mother just so happens to be a world-renowned sex therapist. Growing up under such a unique parentage, Otis is especially smart for his age, and endlessly embarrassed by his mother and her very frank attitude towards embarrassing subjects. While navigating high school, he encounters many teenagers uninformed about sex and it’s many facets and decides to open up a “sex clinic”, similar to his mother’s practice, to help his fellow students and their own sexual confusions.

 I first watched Season 1 on a whim when it originally premiered, and was hooked by the unique premise, interesting characters, snappy dry wit, and very stark approach to topics many shows avoid altogether. The show is full of diverse and engaging characters, of different races, genders, and sexualities. It adds a distinctive wrinkle to the show and a refreshing look at many types of people I never would have been exposed to otherwise on television.

It’s a relatable topic, and I’m sure many of us can remember being confused about all these extremely heavy questions about this new world opening to us and lacking in answers. I think sex in general is a very undereducated topic in schools, at least in the United States, and apparently in the UK as well based on the show. I think a show like this would have been very valuable to many people growing up, as through its plot and storylines, it tackles many subjects that never would have been even touched upon in many schools.

I really recommend the show, and I think it is especially valuable for young adults. I am personally excited to see what they come up with in Season 3.
